When you think of the word ‘coach’, what comes to mind? Some of us can think of sports or our school teacher, or in the modern scenario the executive business coaches, all dressed up.
If we look and consider the characteristics those coaches may possess – are they strict, do they expect results, discipline? Are they patient or impatient? Do they tell you what to do, or encourage you to think and decide for yourself? How do they make you feel?
Coaching can be described in this way: The art of enabling another person to clearly identify their goals, create a vision for their ideal future, uncover any barriers (often hidden) that stand in their way, create a clear, structured step-by-step path towards achieving their goals and then provide the support, challenge and accountability needed to reach and maintain them.
“Coaching is the process of bringing out the greatness of people. It begins with a desire on the part of the client to accomplish, have or experience something. The coach inspires the client to accomplish the desired result through personalized teaching, expanding awareness, and designing environments."
- Dave Buck
Health and wellness coaching focus on your health. What does optimal health mean to you? Feeling energized and motivated to get up everyday? Having a purpose that drives you? Sleeping well? Being active physically? Eating nutritious food that nourish your body? Having time to yourself and to connect with others? What is not working and you have been tolerating all this time?
It provides you a structured plan to achieve your health and wellness objectives and have a sustainable quality of life.
Your health and wellness coach is your cheerleader and works with you each step of the way to ensure you are successful in getting the results you aim for. Together we work in your goals or objectives to make them smarter and achievable, we reframe them if needed, we re-evaluate and celebrate your achievements and successes.
With a coach, you are not alone, and you have someone to push you and challenge you, someone to whom you are accountable to and measuring your progress throughout the experience.
Imagine you have a chronic disease, such as diabetes, your doctor alerts you to the lifestyle changes you need to do regarding nutrition, stress management, physical movement, sleeping hygiene, the list goes on and you feel overwhelmed and worried. " Do I need to give up the food I like? ", "I can't do it", "I'm gonna die anyway", so many limiting beliefs and self-doubt, you know you want to age and live better, who wants to feel sick? You feel lonely and don´t know where to start from, perhaps you try a short term ´´diet´´, but can not maintain it longer and give up. Working with a health coach is having a hand to push you out of the hole and rise again.
Health coaching is important because:
Bringing out the capable and resourceful human that you are and supporting you finding your own solutions. Waking up awareness in yourself and self care. Why is taking care of yourself important? What do you want? And How are you putting this in place? Will you give up?
Having someone to support you throughout the journey of amending habits and lifestyle increases your chances of success and you become less prone to give up.
Coaching is now firmly established as a highly effective way of supporting others to change their lives, move in new directions, and navigate through complex life circumstances, remaining committed to their new goals and visions for their future.
"We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them"
